Family business research – Past accomplishments and future opportunities

Family businesses represent the dominant form of economic organization in the world.  Research on family business is flourishing and consistently gaining prevalence in both mainstream and specialized journals.  The purpose of this lecture is to discuss key accomplishments and opportunities for future research.  Toward this aim, the general characteristics and prevalence of family businesses will be presented and key research areas surveyed.  We will then discuss how adding the family business perspective may alter previous findings and insights from selected disciplines.  The lecture will be interactive and participants are encouraged to share their own work for discussion.
